La buena vida

Casa Taller Jose Clemente Orozco, Guadalajara, México
August 5th & 12th, 2023

Octophonic concert held at Casa Taller Jose Clemente Orozco on the 5th and 12th of August 2023 in Guadalajara as part of the "Nuevos Muralismos" program curated by Yuriko Cortés. "La Buena Vida" refers to the eponymous mural painted by Orozco in what was his last home, now a museum, where this event took place.

We formed an electronic music quartet ensemble composed of Carlo Filio (alias Buena Tarde), Andy Martin, Jorge Vargas, and myself. The textural soundscape was spatialized throughout the museum's multiple rooms, the staircases, and reverberant lobby. We were thinking about the architecture and resonance as implicit members of the ensemble, we did not performed in a space, we performed with the space.

Additionally, we wrote a fanzine titled SoNI (Unidentified Sounds) to accompany the concert, in which we pour several of our ideas about soundscape, perception and intuition. We encouraged the audience to use it as a way of recording and to annotate a log of their perceptions and sensibilities during the event.

Finally, and as a fun fact, the first rehearsal for this concert was only Jorge and me. We spent that afternoon improvising and recording. That material became our collaborative EP ‘micrographia' (available on Bandcamp & Spotify).
