Cuando suene el último grillo
Acousmatic work for quadraphonic system
variable duration
2023
In late 2022 I was invited to participate in an exhibition called HÁBITAT PRESENTE: arte, territorio y tecnodiversidad by curator Isabel Deheza who was (and still is) working on the ways in which we think about technological development and how it intersects with the ways we relate to art and territory.
For this project I worked alongside Irizaida Navar, environmental engineer, to create a piece that deals with the deforestation problem that is taking place at La Primavera Forest in Jalisco, Mexico, as a result of the urban expansion and real estate business pressure. The project materialized in the creation of a generative acousmatic piece for a quadraphonic system.
A series of sound walks and field recordings were made at La Primavera, which were later intervened and modulated via PureData with environmental and demographic data from the same forest and the metropolitan area of Guadalajara compiled from 1985 to the present day. Thus, the space is re-articulated under its own information, portraying the transformation of the forest over the years.
