¿Cuántos Colores Ves En Mis Ojos?
Film opera
30 min
2020- 2024
A few words from the day of it’s premier:
(...) I'm pleased to finally show this work after 5 years of its conception (...) this was my dissertation project from music school (...) Over the past few months, I've dedicated myself to revisiting this piece and editing the version you're about to see today. I thought I had finished it three years ago, but it turns out I hadn't (...) Today, I find new facets in this piece that were perhaps hidden at the time, particularly ideas that dwell on anxiety, isolation and communication problems (…)
(...) back in 2019, when I started settling on ideas, I wanted to create something similar to an opera, and I was inspired by the works of composers like Michael Van Der Aa, Chaya Czernowin, Meredith Monk, and John Zorn. I was permeated by ideas from Antonin Artaud, Beckett, Brecht, Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense, and David Lynch's films. I was also inspired by the works of my dear friends Nicolas Garcia Liberman, Eitan Ciralsky, and Ernesto Hevia (...)
This work was originally written for a sextet ensemble and film in a live performance (...) However, due to the 2020 pandemic the piece had to adapt (...) taking it´s current form as this video installation.
I don’t know if I’d call it a polystylistic piece, as it may lack the investigative rigor that a name like that could suggest, so, I'd rather say it’s eclectic. (...) And the truth is, it required a particularly eclectic ensemble—people who know and enjoy playing and listening to punk, jazz, free improvisation, chamber music, who are open to corporal performativity, and who collectively speak at least English, French, German, and Spanish. It may sound whimsical to find people with this profile, but the truth is I wrote it for my friends. (...)
This was a project I couldn’t have done alone. It came to life solely through the dedication and commitment of all my friends, and I truly have no way to thank them. I felt accompanied throughout the entire process (…)
This piece has waited for me patiently over the past three years of my life (...) Thank you once again; I hope you enjoy it."
